San Francisco: Top 5 Things to Do

San Francisco is a vibrant city and there are far more than 5 things to do here.  I’ve narrowed down my top 5 things to do in this city that I think should be included on everyone’s itinerary.  Whether you’re in the City by the Bay for a week or weekend, be sure to hit these spots!

Golden Gate Bridge

No trip to San Francisco is complete without seeing the famous Golden Gate Bridge.  We rented a bike for the day and followed the path along the water and through a park until we reached the bridge.  There were great photo opportunities along this path and our rental came with a lock so we could stop and explore the area.  If you want to take it one step further, then you can bike across the bridge!  I opted to drive across it the next day instead, but you’ll avoid the tolls with a bike!

Fisherman’s Warf

This is a perfect spot to stop for lunch and enjoy some seafood.  There are street performers, museums, and plenty of shops to enjoy!  Be sure to go down Pier 39 to see the famous sea lion colony!

Alcatraz

This former prison housed some of the most dangerous men, including Al Capone.  Buy your tickets in advance then board the boat to the island to start your journey.  They do offer guided tours, but we opted for the complimentary audio tour and it was an amazing experience.  It walked us through the entire prison and provided stories of the inmates and the details of their escape attempts.

Muir Woods

Ok, this spot isn’t technically in San Francisco, but it’s right across the bridge and is the perfect spot for outdoor lovers.  The walking path is very easy and is shaded by the enormous Red Wood and Sequoia trees.

Ghirardelli Square

I am a chocoholic so this spot is definitely makes my top 5 list!  Take a break from biking and treat yourself to something sweet.  There are vegan options too!

That’s my list!  I know I left out SO much, but comment below your favorite part of San Francisco!
