We’re Getting Maui’d!

Good Morning! In case you missed it, Chris proposed to me on New Year’s and we’re currently engaged! Whoo! We’ve decided to have our wedding in Maui and are tying the knot in July 2020. Wedding planning is in full swing right now and I decided to create a separate section on my blog where you can find anything and everything about our big day. I know there are other brides out there and hopefully my journey can help you plan your perfect day, especially if you’re interested in a destination wedding. I’ll be answering a few questions below, but always feel free to leave a comment or reach out to me on Instagram!

Why did you choose Maui?

I was always interested in having a destination wedding because I liked the thought of having a smaller, intimate wedding in a beautiful location that I could share with my family and friends. I brought up the idea to Chris and he was all for it so we started exploring different venues. We decided on Maui since it’s not too far from home for our guests, but still a beautiful and tropical destination. Fun fact: I’ve never been to Maui and haven’t even seen my venue yet!

Are you nervous about planning a wedding without seeing all the details in person?

Surprisingly, I’m not. This is super weird because I’m a very Type A person and a perfectionist, but the most important thing is that I get to marry Chris and I know our day will be perfect so I’m not going to get too caught up in the details. I’d love to go out beforehand to actually see our venue and meet some of the vendors, but the summer was busy and with school starting back up I haven’t been able to find a time yet.

How many people will be at your wedding?

We’ll have 40 guests at our wedding. I wanted it to be small and intimate so I specifically chose a venue with this vision in mind. Since not all of our family will be able to attend, we will be having a reception in Phoenix about a month and a half after the wedding to celebrate with everyone at home.

What’s your biggest piece of advice for planning a destination wedding?

Hire a planner! Honestly, I feel like my stress level would be wayyyy higher if I didn’t have a planner and had to do all this research on my own. My planner is amazing and has been very helpful and responsive throughout the whole process. I looked at a few different planners before I found mine and chose not to work with them because we didn’t seem to mesh well. Always go with your gut and look at reviews before hiring someone because you’ll be in it for the long haul with this person.

I hope this gives you a little more insight into our day and I can’t wait to share more with you! As always, please reach out to me if you have any questions since I love getting to know you guys!

xoxo Michaela
